Mashatu is one of Botswana’s great wildlife destinations, a vast wilderness of open plains, ancient baobabs and rocky landscapes where some of Africa’s most iconic predators roam. Lions, leopards, cheetahs and elephants are all found here, often in spectacular settings that lend themselves beautifully to photography.

Our Mashatu photographic workshop is designed around getting you into the right place at the right time, with flexible game drives focused on wildlife behaviour, light and photography. Early mornings begin before sunrise, giving us the chance to work with the soft golden light as the landscape comes alive. After the morning drive, there is time to return to camp, relax and review your images before heading out again in the afternoon. As the temperature drops, wildlife becomes increasingly active and the late afternoon light transforms the Tuli landscape.

Mashatu is particularly exciting for photographers because of the variety of subjects and environments. One moment you may be watching a leopard moving through the rocky terrain, and the next you could be photographing a pride of lions crossing the open plains, elephants beneath enormous baobabs or a cheetah using the wide grasslands to hunt. The changing landscapes provide far more than just wildlife portraits, allowing you to create images that capture the character of the Tuli wilderness.

Open to photographers of all levels, the workshop combines exceptional wildlife viewing with practical photographic guidance throughout your stay. We will work on composition, exposure, positioning and making the most of changing light, while also learning to anticipate behaviour and recognise those moments when a scene is about to unfold.
