Overview

Experience an exceptional eight-night luxury safari in South Africa’s renowned Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, combining four nights at Leopard Hills with four nights at MalaMala. This journey brings together two outstanding safari destinations, both celebrated for their wildlife viewing, experienced guides and opportunities to observe Africa’s most iconic animals at close range.

Sabi Sands is internationally recognised for its remarkable leopard sightings, with the reserve’s long history of careful wildlife management and experienced guiding creating exceptional opportunities to encounter these elusive cats. Leopards are often seen moving through the bush, resting in trees, hunting or interacting with their cubs, offering opportunities to observe natural behaviour and capture everything from intimate portraits to wider images of these magnificent predators in their environment. Lions, elephants, buffalo, rhinos and a wealth of other wildlife add to the experience, making this one of South Africa’s most rewarding destinations for big cat encounters.

Your first four nights are spent at Leopard Hills, an exclusive lodge set among the rocky outcrops and open landscapes of the western Sabi Sands. Its elevated position provides sweeping views across the surrounding wilderness, while the private suites offer space, privacy and luxurious comfort between safari activities. The lodge’s experienced guides and trackers work together to locate wildlife and provide rewarding encounters, with the freedom to follow sightings and spend time observing animal behaviour whenever conditions allow. Morning and afternoon game drives offer opportunities to explore different areas of the reserve, while the surrounding landscape provides a beautiful backdrop for wildlife photography.

After four nights at Leopard Hills, continue to MalaMala, one of South Africa’s most established and celebrated private safari destinations. Bordering the Kruger National Park without a separating boundary fence, MalaMala forms part of an extensive natural ecosystem where wildlife moves freely across the landscape. The reserve is particularly renowned for its consistent big cat sightings, excellent guiding and the opportunity to spend extended periods with animals in the field. Its diverse habitats, including open grasslands, riverine woodland and the Sand River, attract an impressive variety of wildlife throughout the year.

The safari experience at MalaMala places a strong emphasis on observation, patience and understanding animal behaviour. Experienced rangers and trackers work together to locate wildlife and interpret what is happening in the bush, often allowing guests to spend meaningful time with individual animals and follow their movements. Leopards are a particular highlight, but encounters with lions, elephants, buffalo, rhinos and other species provide an equally rewarding part of the experience. For photographers, these extended sightings offer opportunities to work with changing light, experiment with composition and capture a range of images as animals move naturally through their surroundings.

Throughout the journey, early morning and afternoon game drives are complemented by time to relax at the lodges, enjoy the surrounding wilderness and make the most of the exceptional hospitality on offer. Both properties combine luxurious accommodation with attentive service, excellent cuisine and carefully considered facilities, creating a safari that balances exciting wildlife encounters with genuine comfort. The change of lodge also offers a fresh perspective on the region, with different landscapes, guiding teams and wildlife experiences across the eight nights.

This safari is well suited to couples, honeymooners and luxury travellers seeking an outstanding introduction to the African bush, as well as wildlife enthusiasts and photographers hoping to experience some of the continent’s most celebrated big cat destinations. Combining the intimate setting of Leopard Hills with the renowned wildlife viewing of MalaMala, this journey offers an immersive experience in the heart of the Greater Kruger ecosystem, with exceptional opportunities to encounter Africa’s wildlife in its natural environment.
