Conservation projects

Taking part in hands-on conservation projects that support our wildlife is one of the most rewarding ways to travel. We are passionate about facilitating such experiences like this for our guests and giving back to the organisations that protect endangered species.

conservation projects in south Africa

South Africa is the stronghold for the world’s rhino population, yet it has been tragically affected by poaching. Some incredible organisations have been established in response to this issue and other threats to wildlife, and these teams dedicate all their resources to fighting poaching, removing snares, rehabilitating rescued animals, and performing essential research. These form what we consider to be the most important conservation projects of our time.

We have the great honour of being able to work with some of these groups and have a hand in supporting their efforts, and through Panthera, we can offer our guests the same opportunity to take part. Whether it’s joining a rhino dehorning operation or participating in the release of critically endangered pangolin, there is a variety of ways in which our guests can have an impact.

Here are some of the conservation projects we know personally and would like to support.

RHINO DEHORNING

A hard-hitting experience you’ll never forget, and an essential practice in the protection of rhino in South Africa. Join a team of experts as they carefully track, dart, and dehorn rhinos in the wild.

K9 ANTI-POACHING UNIT

To perform at their best, it’s vital the dogs are kept at peak condition. Help aid and support one of our local anti-poaching dog units in a high risk rhino poaching area of South Africa.

pangolin rehabilitation conservation project supported by Panthera Photo Safaris

pangolin rehabilitation

We donate to the vet teams as well as to the rehabilitation centres where the animals go to when healthy enough to not be tube fed, but not strong enough to be in the wild.

Snare Removal conservation projects supported by Panthera Safaris

Snare Removals

Death via snare is an excruciatingly painful and slow way to die, as the animal struggles and the wire tightens around their neck or leg.

Antipoaching Helicopter conservation projects supported by Panthera Safaris

Antipoaching Flight

If you are looking to help fund some of our conservation teams here locally, one of the best ways to do this is by sponsoring an anti-poaching flight.
